Snow Day Notifications Reminder

NewsURGENTComments Off on Snow Day Notifications Reminder

Cancellations will always be shared first by email, phone and SMS message

Winter is coming, which means there will be days with ice and snow and dangerous driving conditions. Winter weather may cause school cancellations. Snow days may be fun for kids, but we understand that canceling classes is often a burden for parents/guardians. As always, we will only cancel school when conditions dictate that it is necessary to keep students safe.

We will make every effort to inform parents/guardians as soon as possible when schools will be closed due to inclement weather. Our goal is to send these notifications before 9:30 p.m. the evening before the school closure, or between 6 and 6:30 a.m. on the day of the closure.

Cancellations will always be shared first by email, phone and SMS message. If your contact information has changed recently, please make sure that you have informed your school. You can also update your contact preferences in our SchoolMessenger notification system. In order to receive our text messages, you must also opt-in on your phone by texting the word “YES” to 67587.  You only need to do this one time and you may opt-out in the future if you wish.

Email, phone and text will always be our top priorities for sharing urgent updates. Other ways of tracking information from us about events like snows days include, by order of importance:

  1. KSD and school websites
  2. KSD’s Facebook and Twitter accounts
  3. Local print and broadcast news outlets

We also want you to be aware that we do not intend to have Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days this school year. Our goal is that there will be no at-home teaching and learning when school is canceled due to winter weather. We want snow days to be days off for students.

Thank you for taking the time to review our snow day procedures. Please contact your school if you have any questions.
