Kearney Junior High: Where Bulldogs Learn to Lead

Home to about 600 eighth‑ and ninth‑graders on South Campus Drive, Kearney Junior High (KJH) lives its motto: “Working together to become life‑long learners.” Our faculty and staff build a caring, close‑knit community that launches students into the rigor of high school while helping them discover their passions right now.

Points of Pride

Academics

  • STEM Excellence – Eighth‑grade scientists collected a wave of medals at the 2025 Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair.
  • Competitive Scholars – The Science Olympiad team brought home silver at the 2024 Northwest Missouri Regional.
  • Academic Support – Twice‑weekly Bulldog Zone tutoring in the library and a daily advisory period keep every learner on track.

Activities & Athletics

  • Extracurricular Opportunities – We offer more than 20 clubs, from the National Junior Honor Society and Robotics to Ski Club and Sister‑to‑Sister peer mentoring.
  • Award‑Winning Fine Arts — Bulldog Band musicians earned multiple Exemplary (Gold) ratings at spring 2025 festivals, and our choir routinely posts “Superior” marks at district contests.
  • Championship Tradition — 2024‑25 boys and girls basketball players captured All‑Conference, All‑District and KMZU Dream Team honors; football and track continue the Bulldogs’ winning legacy.
  • Early Varsity Opportunities — Ninth‑graders may suit up with Kearney High JV and varsity squads, giving talented athletes a head start.

Culture of Care & Leadership

  • Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) celebrate Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
  • “Bulldog Best” awards and quarterly pep assemblies keep school spirit sky‑high.
  • Service learning runs deep: NJHS, FCCLA and counseling‑team drives logged 3,000+ volunteer hours last year.
  • A dedicated Counselor’s Corner and peer‑to‑peer programs ensure every Bulldog feels seen, safe and supported.

Whether they're engineering a robot, nailing a clarinet solo or cheering on the purple and gold, KJH students are discovering who they are and where they’re headed. By the time they head to Kearney High School, our Bulldogs arrive prepared.

Message From the Principal

A man with a beard and a bald head smiles at the camera.Welcome to Kearney Junior High! We are excited to begin another great school year and we are proud to welcome you to the Junior High Family. Here at Kearney Junior High, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for our students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

As building principal, I look forward each year to watching students discover who they are and realize what they are capable of achieving. During your time at KJH, I encourage you to get involved in activities that allow you to connect with others, build strong relationships, and grow both personally and academically.

I believe in strong relationships, open communication, and working together to support each and every student. My door is always open, and I hope students and families feel comfortable reaching out with questions or concerns. I am a strong believer in teamwork, and together we can make your time here meaningful and memorable.
I look forward to getting to know you and helping make your time at KJH a positive experience. Let’s have a great year!
